Bedeutung des Namen: Trügerische Schnauze

Der Holotyp von Apatorhamphus besteht aus einem fragmentarischen Rostrum, dem die Schnabelspitze fehlt, welche kurz vor dem Nasoantorbitalfenster abgebrochen ist. Der vordere Bruch ist scharf und sauber, was darauf hindeutet, dass die Spitze vermutlich während des Sammelns verloren gegangen ist. Bei dem Fund handelt es sich höchstwahrscheinlich um einen Teil des Oberkiefers. Eine genaue Einordnung von Apatorhamphus ist aufgrund desr fragmentarischen Materials schwierig. Er ähnelt jedoch den Azhdarchiden und Chaoyangopteriden.
